MJC Voices

A community based jazz vocal ensemble and part of the Miami Jazz Cooperative, the MJC Voices is devoted to the performance of traditional and contemporary music including jazz, pop, gospel and other genres. The personnel are selected by invitation of the director, recommendation by ensemble members, or audition, and include professional musicians, music educators, former and present university music students, and talented amateurs.

The groupís director, Larry Lapin, is the founder of the Jazz Vocal Program that was initiated in 1980 at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. Retired from UM in 2013, Larry is still an active performer, composer, arranger, and conductor and presents clinics at universities and national music conferences in the US and abroad.
